I have wanted to take an inventory of my wardrobe for the longest time. Throughout the years, there were several promising apps, the most recent ones being Save Your Wardrobe and Whering. I like the former because it tries to connect you with local services like dry cleaners or alteration services, however there’s no available services listed near where I live (to be fair, they are based in London). I went further with Whering, logging more than 50 wardrobe items and curated some outfits. Still, taking photos of each item becomes really tedious and time consuming.
After thinking about why current wardrobe inventory / outfit logging apps don’t work for me, I realize one thing: the visual aspect is not my priority. I do not need to see visual collages of my outfits, or have pictorial representation of every single item in my wardrobe.
Instead, I want a complete list of my wardrobe items. Instead of visual presentations, I can identify each item by using a combination of information, such as its color, item type, and brand. That way, I can make a relatively quick and efficient work of recording my wardrobe items.
Still, just like those apps, the goal of taking wardrobe inventory is to get outfit recommendations. This is where I found an AI chatbot to be really useful. Through some prompts, I was able to decide what information fields are necessary for each item, including a method to include an item’s worn count. This field can then be used for future prompts, such as “give me an outfit recommendation for a birthday party from my wardrobe items that have worn count less than 5” if I want to wear clothes I rarely reach for.
In this newsletter, I’m sharing the process of how I did the wardrobe inventory and got outfit recommendations with an AI chatbot’s assistance. In this case, I use a free Claude.ai account.
Perhaps this newsletter issue will encourage you to use an AI chatbot’s assistance for doing your own wardrobe inventory, or any long overdue tasks!
