September this year is like no other. While it is a typically busy month, never before have I had the opportunity to travel to other cities and showcase or speak about my work in front of an audience, let alone during climate weeks. Following last April’s San Francisco Climate Week, I will be traveling to Los Angeles for their first ever Climate Week event, followed by a couple showcases in New York. Join us this month if you are able and interested!
Before I continue, I’d like to be vulnerable for a moment and state that it has been financially challenging to pursue these opportunities. I believe participating in these events will plant seeds of collaboration and a resource network that will be rewarding in the long run.
However, the kind of efforts one must exert in order to enable my participation has been extensive. Not just spending so many hours in creating (that part I enjoy, but it eats time), but also various tasks that inevitably come up because it’s a group effort. Because there’s no monetary reward tied into these participations, money has been very tight.
So if you enjoy my designs or writing, and you are able to donate some amount to support my work, please consider donating to my Venmo or Ko-Fi. Thank you so much for your continued support.
Threads of Earth - September 13, 2024
My first showcase is happening this Friday during LA Climate Week! I am honored to join the “Threads of Earth” event, produced by veteran slow fashion entrepreneur and filmmaker Clementina Martinez-Masarweh of DNA Sustainable Threds.
During the panel talk, I will share how my cultural heritage of Indonesia, which is rich in nature inspirations influence my upycled fashion creating process. Later on in the fashion show, I will unveil three “new” upcycled garments that pay homage to the kawung motif, commonly present in Javanese Batik textile designs and building constructions. Readers of my Batik Storytelling Conclusion (May 2024) may find the term familiar! It has many variations, and symbolizes perfection and wisdom.
